BEST ACADEMY OVERVIEW 

Brookfield Engineering Science Technology or BEST Academy is a fully accredited, tuition-free, public charter school serving TK-12th grade California students in San Diego, Orange, Riverside, and Imperial counties. 

Our California-credentialed teachers and counselors customize every student's individual learning pathway based on their interests, diverse backgrounds and goals to provide homeschool and independent study learning while providing a strong social-emotional approach that supports college and career readiness.

We are
fully-accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) through the June 30, 2030. WASC Accreditation certifies to students, families, other educational institutions and the general public that BEST Academy meets established criteria and standards.

Our students are empowered with award-winning, California standards-based curriculum options, combined with the superior individualized support that students need for building successful personalized learning plans for 
independent study students in grades TK through 12th grade.

  • How much does it cost?
    Nothing! We are a tuition-free, public charter school serving 3rd-12th grade students in San Diego, Orange, Riverside, and Imperial Counties.
  • Is BEST Academy an accredited educational program?
    We are fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). WASC Accreditation certifies to students, families, other educational institutions and the general public that BEST Academy meets established criteria and standards. Our full WASC accreditation allows university or college-bound students to track to higher education and take A-G approved courses that fulfill the requirement of the University of California (UC) and California State University (CSU) systems.
  • Who can enroll in BEST Academy?
    Students in grades TK-12 can enroll in BEST Academy. Students must live in San Diego, Orange, Riverside, or Imperial county and provide proof of residency.
  • Why enroll in a homeschool or independent study program?
    Traditional schools aren't for everyone. For some families it's a matter a safety and emotional well-being. For other students, it's about creating a flexible online learning program centered on a passion or pursuit of excellence that can't be supported by traditional schools or class schedules. Homeschool and Independent Study Programs are ideal for a student who works at their own pace, while having the flexibility in their schedule.
  • Can a student make up credits if they are off pace to graduate?
    Yes! B.E.S.T. Academy's credit recovery program enables students to take the classes they need to catch up and graduate on time.
  • When does a student have class?
    B.E.S.T. Academy's independent study program empowers students to determine the best for their situation - when, where, and how long is spent completing coursework and assignments. Students are expected to complete work on regularly scheduled school days and teachers meet with students virtually to provide academic coaching support and additionally schedule tutoring and support on days and times that work best for students and families.
  • What types of students enroll in BEST Academy?
    BEST Academy students are as diverse as the world they live in. Typically, students fall into the following categories listed below. Acceleration - to increase the pace of school and "Get Ahead" with more challenging curriculum options. Credit Recovery - to repeat coursework or finish coursework for credits students may need to complete for graduation. Enrichment - access additional classes and extend learning beyond the traditional scope of state standards. College Pathway students - take online or community college credits that can be counted toward college graduation. Career Pathway students - earn certifications in medical, technology, and business industries to prepare for a rewarding and challenging, fast-paced future of high-demand careers.
  • Do students need a computer at home?
    In order to access online curriculum and learning platforms, students need access to a desktop computer or laptop. B.E.S.T. Academy provides laptops to students who do not have access to a computer. It is recommended students have access to internet connection at home, and becasue students have 24/7 access to online learning platforms, students can access internet at public locations with wifi access. If students do not have access to a computer or internet and live in remote locations, B.E.S.T. Academy will provide mobile devices to connect to internet.
  • Who will issue my diploma and will there be a graduation ceremony?
    Once students complete all of the required credits for graducation, BEST Academy will issue the diploma. While our educational programs are designed for homeschool and independent study, we operate as a traditional school with graduation ceremonies and other student activities. Our graduating class of 2023's online in-person graduation ceremony is calendared for June 13, 2023. To learn additional information, get in touch with us today!   • How are learning and educational programs supported when additional help or interventions are necessary?
    All BEST students are assigned a California-credentialed teacher and counselor. Students can also connect to a learning coach and have access to 24-7 online tutoring support.
